Windy Days & Friendship

Obviously there couldn’t be a book about Maxie without including his best friend Indie. These two bonded instantly and watching them grow up together was one of my great joys in this life. How they would play! And cuddle and comfort. They stuck together and looked after each other throughout their childhood.

Windy days were always scary for them though. I could see them get anxious and they would stay a lot closer to me if the trees were moving. A gentle sway is not an issue, it’s all that extra movement when it’s windy accompanied by the deafening noise of the wind through the leaves some days. But how cute was this little tail spin and kick as Indie made sure she kept her balance as she came over the hill.

While Maxie was bold, Indie was very cautious. Max wanted to go around the property introducing himself to everyone, while Indie preferred to stand back and watch. While I never captured it on video, Maxie loved jumping through puddles but Indie preferred to jump over. She didn’t like getting dirty herself, but she was more than happy to groom Maxie when he did. I always felt this made them a perfect pair, Maxie would encourage Indie to relax and play while Indie would stay alert in case there was trouble someday.

Rain days also bring out different sounds. The water hitting the leaves, frogs begin singing, the whip-birds get very excited chorusing with the water noises, our little creek can get loud like a river and for little joeys this is a lot to listen to and take in. Maxie is the one closest to the camera in this video, looking properly disheveled, while prim Miss Indie, even though she has been hopping through the wet grass, somehow still looks so tidy.
