It’s A Boy!
As the weeks went on, Charlie went from his “pink” stage to his “velvet” stage. There’s something so extraordinary seeing that little head with those great big eyes and very short hair. Charlie is 7.5 months old in this photo.
Watching Indie looking after Charlie in that pouch was a fascination. She often looked a bit bewildered while also intuitively sorting out what needed to be done. Here she’s cleaning him and the pouch. Those feet haven’t touched ground yet, so they are still very shiny. It’s fun seeing the pouch so relaxed, and truly amazing realising how much stretch it has.
The first time for a little under the chin cuddle from Granny.
Every morning that Indie came home, I was in heaven. I would watch, film, photograph and cuddle her when she wanted cuddles, but mostly just stare. Everything they did was mesmerising; I had a front row seat to a miracle. Her ability to lay down without squashing him was so beautiful, and watching her gently stroke his head, just like human mothers do.
When Indie gave birth, I knew I needed to give her bub a name that could work long before I knew if it was a boy or girl. I fell in love with Charlie as a girls name back in 1986 when I first watched the movie Top Gun. If it turned out to be a boy, well that worked too!
On the 19th of October (8 months and 10 days after his birth) Indie came and stood next to me while I was siting on the edge of our patio. She stood there tickling her pouch opening so I started filming. She then released her muscles around the opening to let her little cherub drop to the floor.
This is the moment I found out that Indie was a mother of a little boy.
That day she let him out and guided him back in over and over again. I love that little clucking sound she makes when she’s talking to him.
Watching her so carefully moving him around and guiding him where she wanted. Keeping him close, but also encouraging him to stand on his own. Melts my heart every time.
Practice, practice and more practice. Every time Charlie becoming more confident in his movements.
10 days later, much to my delight, Charlie was getting more curious. Indie was as attentive as ever.
